was set up a few years ago
when a number of new mums in the church realised that there was a need for a
baby group. The village already had a thriving toddler club, but there seemed to
be nothing that catered for new mums and dads and expectant ladies on maternity
leave.
We meet every Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. (except Christmas week and a
couple of weeks in August).
We have a lovely and lively group now, with children ranging from birth to
school age.
As the children have grown we have adapted to meet their needs. We now have a
craft session each week where the toddlers have the chance to make all kinds of
things to take home, from pictures and paintings to decorated biscuits and seeds
that they've planted. The children have a great time getting messy and being
creative, and the mums seem to enjoy getting "stuck in" and showing
their artistic side as well!
We also have special events each term, including Easter egg hunts, Sports
day, a summer birthday party and a Christmas party to which Father Christmas
comes along!
We also try to make sure that the mums (and grandmothers) don't get left out.
By arranging regular "girls' nights out" we've been for meals and
bowling. It's great fun and also a great opportunity to get to know each other
as human beings and not simply as a mum! We've also had book, craft and
Tupperware sales. We regularly have a visit from a professional photographer and
also a further education/careers advisor.
